Material choices affect durability and finish. Balsa wood offers a classic feel and can be sanded for smooth, aerodynamic profiles, while plastic and foam kits tolerate rough handling and easier assembly. Composite or fiberglass kits are chosen for advanced builders seeking high strength-to-weight ratios. Consider also the availability of replacement parts; popular kits tend to have wider aftermarket support.

Engines should be matched to the kit's design and certified by recognized manufacturers. A low-power A or B engine is sufficient for many beginner kits, whereas advanced projects might require C or D motors or clustered engines for thicker payloads.
